In December, 1985, Minister John Muhammad wrote in his book, Blackman Unite, the following : "...Teaching other than what you are is causing the people to look at you and the Nation of Islam, as Black foolish people, and this is causing our own lost - founds, Black brothers and sisters, to stand aloof and not be interested in the true teachings of the Messenger, because of what you (Prophets : Peter , Joshua , Moses, Aaron, etc. ) are claiming to know in this New Islam , and don't know. Such teachings are a mess - up and shame upon the truth and the Nation of Islam , also the righteous Muslims. How do people feel claiming the position of some prophet who lived two or three thousand years ago, and you, yet are still a slave in this Hell part of the earth. This kind of teaching to the masses of people, our Black people, and you claiming to be one of Messenger Elijah Muhammad ' s followers, is a great hindrance and disgrace to All Black people. Your teaching makes it difficult for the masses of Black people.... The Messenger did not teach anyone that they were prophets..... This kind of uplifting to gain membership does not uplift the Nation of Islam. It only brings greater confusion to those who would be good believers.... "

Nevertheless, in 1987 Minister John Muhammad began teaching his followers that he was playing the role of Benjamin (Joseph's youngest brother ------ Bible ) .
